Happy Birthday Elder Musser!
This was kind of a fun week. We needed to drive some senior missionaries to a residency appointment. It was the Geertsens and they had flown in from the islands. We were hoping to spend a little more time with them, and maybe do lunch at one of the restaurants close to the office, but had to settle for a place near the police station where they had their appointment. It turned out to not be too bad. It was Italian and there was some interesting "Atmosphere" there. Neat little pizza oven and fun decorations. However, the shock came at the end when we wanted to use the restrooms before leaving. The only light in them was black lights. Kind of sketchy! At least the food was pretty good.
On my birthday, the sweet office Elders swiped some of my balloons so that they could make me a hat. They didn't do half bad either. Especially seeing that not a single one of them could blow the balloons up. They tried several YouTube videos to try to figure it out. However, in the end they used a bicycle pump. My sweet Brenda cooked for everyone in the office, and we had a lot of fun messing around with the balloons. It was all quite fun. These wonderful missionaries work their way into our hearts better than a new puppy. Then when transfers happen, they rip large chunks of our hearts out when they leave!
We had a couple of sister missionaries drop by our apartment to drop off some keys. We invited them in for some snacks, and they talked about their testimonies. One of them is very new in the mission. She said that when she was in the MTC she was struggling with some depressive thoughts, anxiety, and some other personal issues. She said that she also got sick there. Two random elders gave her a blessing. She only told them about being sick, but in the blessing the elder who was voice listed every issue she was dealing with, and gave her comfort specifically for each one. She said "THE PRIESTHOOD IS REAL!!" They expressed amazement that so much power is given to such young, inexperienced men. These missionaries, both elders and sisters, are incredible because the Lord is working His work through them. It is an honor to be around them.
This weekend has been pretty special as well. Elder Palmer from the presidency of the 70 is here along with Elder McConkie of the 70. They had a special fireside Saturday night for the young adults, and another one tonight for all of the recently baptized members along with any friends who are meeting with the missionaries. We went to both of them. They were very impressive, but so are their wives. Sister Palmer is from England and served her mission here in the Spain, Barcelona mission. She said that when she was here there wasn't a single ward in the entire country yet, only branches. It really touched her heart to see the stake center filled to almost half-way into the cultural hall with the young adults from the areas in and around Barcelona. They all bore powerful testimony of the Book of Mormon, and of the Savior. We are also going to get to have a special zone conference with them tomorrow morning for the 4 zones in and around Barcelona. Should be fun. The Church is true!
