Change Happens. The Work Goes On.

Image
I have heard that one of the only constants in our lives is "change". This week certainly reflected that for us. First, there were changes in the office. Elder Noble turned over his Assistant to the President role to Elder Guevara. Elder Noble is going home tomorrow. Elder Guevara is a native, and so it will be fun to really be speaking Spanish! Sorry, Hermana Musser! :-). On Wednesday, we received 20 new missionaries! It's always wonderful to see the light in their jet-lagged eyes as they arrive in their field of labor. It is crazy, it is hectic, but it is very exciting. It doesn't get old to watch. My hat is always off to President and Sister Heckmann who deal with all of the changes. President Heckmann always interviews each new missionary. He then decides which of the trainers will be charged with each precious new missionary. Then comes the moment of excitement when they line up the trainers on one side and the new missionaries on the other. They hand a little ...

Senior Missionary Conference

This past week was the Senior Missionary Conference. They try to have two a year. President Heckmann really pampered us at an amazing resort in Platja d'Aro. There are 16 couples including President and Hermana Heckmann. That, in and of itself, is a miracle for any mission. It was amazing to have a chance to be around them all and get to know them a little better. However, logistically speaking, it was pretty intense to put together. We had to bring in couples from all over the mission. We had the Dyches stay with us Sunday night. They are serving in Tarragona. We started on Monday night with a family home evening at the President's house. The next morning we drove to Girona to the chapel there. We had some time for some presentations, before having lunch, and then going on a walking tour of some of the Roman ruins and Catholic cathedral. We then traveled to Platja d'Aro (golden beach) and checked into the hotel before going out to dinner. With 32 of us, we pretty well too...

Only 9 Months Left!

This week we have been pondering both the wonderful General Conference, and the beautiful funeral of our dear prophet President Nelson. I am eternally grateful for the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and His resurrection, and what that means to each of us individually. President Nelson finished the course, and stepped through the veil. I am sure that he was welcomed there by his family, including his wife and daughters who passed on before him. I'm sure that the past presidents of the church were there to greet him as well. Then, I am absolutely convinced that the Savior welcomed him home with the words "Well done". Because of our Savior, we can all look forward to what lies on the other side of the veil. Just this week I was reading in Alma about the people of Ammon and how they did not fear death in the least. We should all look forward to that inevitable day with joyous anticipation.  Meanwhile, the work here goes on. This week has been pretty busy. We have been pretty wo...

October already?!?!?!?

Image
When they tell you that time flies when you're having fun, they aren't kidding! It seems like last week  we were gearing up for Christmas, and here we are already into October. It all seems just crazy that our time here in Spain is evaporating this quickly. This week has been a blur. Work in the office has been crazy because painters have been working to give the office a new look. Of course, this means that we have had to move almost everything from everywhere including our storage room where there are several thousand copies of the Book of Mormon in many languages, teaching materials, zone conference supplies, and several very large shelving units. We had to dismantle our office as well. They have finished now, but things are still in a big mess, so this coming week we will need to reorganize everything.  We have been having to do some travel this week to look at apartments and to move a set of missionaries into a new place. One trip was to a place called Viladecans, ...
